TV Choice Awards 2024: Full Winners List Announced

The TV Choice Awards 2024, the first awards show of the year, took place on Monday, February 12, at the O2 Arena in London. The event, hosted by comedian Tom Allen, celebrated the best of British television, as voted by the viewers.

Happy Valley and Emmerdale win big
The BBC drama Happy Valley, created by Sally Wainwright, won two awards: Best Drama Series and Best Actress for Sarah Lancashire, who played the tough and troubled police sergeant Catherine Cawood. The show, which aired its third and final season last year, was praised for its gripping storyline, realistic characters, and superb acting. Emmerdale, the long-running ITV soap, also won two awards: Best Soap and Best Soap Actor for Jeff Hordley, who played the villainous Cain Dingle. The show, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, beat its rivals Coronation Street, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks for the coveted prize. Hordley, who won his first TV Choice Award, said he was “over the moon” and thanked his co-stars, the writers, and the fans for their support.

Beyond Paradise surprises with Best New Drama
One of the biggest surprises of the night was the win for Beyond Paradise, the spin-off of the popular BBC series Death in Paradise. The show, which debuted last year, followed the adventures of DI Scott Pilgrim (Kris Marshall) and his team as they solved crimes in the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie. The show, which featured guest stars such as Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, and Idris Elba, won the Best New Drama award, beating other contenders such as Bridgerton, The Undoing, and The Queen’s Gambit.

Marshall, who accepted the award on behalf of the cast and crew, said he was “honoured” and “amazed” by the recognition. He also teased that the second season of the show, which is currently in production, will have more twists, turns, and surprises for the viewers.
