Indian Govt Issues Twitter Final Notice To Comply With New IT Rules 2021

New Delhi – Twitter has been given a final chance to appoint Indian base officers following the country’s new rules for social media companies failing which it will face consequences. The government said on Sunday amid an escalating standoff with the platform, Twitter Inc, is hereby given one last notice to immediately comply with the rules failing which the exemptions of liability available under Section 79 of the IT act 2000 shall stand withdrawn and Twitter shall be liable for consequences as for the IT act and other penal laws of India is what the government has set.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information technology has written a letter to Twitter to comply with the new IT rules. The letter that has been written on June 4, by the information technology ministry to the Twitter address to US.
It clearly says that Twitter has to comply with the new IT rules. They have said that there have been two other earlier letters also that have been returned to a Twitter i.e. 26 May and also 28 May regarding the new IT rule.
And what the government is saying is that Twitter has not complied with the new rules. What they are saying is that Twitter has not us informed about the Chief Compliance Officer that has to be appointed by Twitter with that information has not been given.
Not just the Chief Compliance Officer, but also the resident grievance officer. And also the nodal contact person nominated by Twitter is not an employee of Twitter. So this is what the government in this matter to Twitter has mentioned has underlined and said that they have to comply with the order.
And then they have to give the name and details of all these officers not the name and details of all these three officers including the Chief Compliance Officer and also the resident grievance officer and also the nodal contact person. But all these three officers should be an employee of Twitter.
What is the government is saying is that in fact, the address that has been given by Twitter is not addressing corporate office. So these are the shortcomings that the government has mentioned in a letter to Twitter. And they have said that, as a goodwill gesture, the government is giving one last opportunity for Twitter to comply with the new IT rules, and then give us state data, including the name and details of all the three officers that have to be appointed by that Twitter.
Now, the government is saying that if Twitter fails to comply with this particular last chance, then the protection from liability as an intermediary that has been given under Section 79 of the IT rules will be withdrawn.
That’s what the government is threatening. What the government is saying is that if you don’t comply with the new IT rules, then the protection as an intermediary will be removed that by what it affects, what it means is that if any third party if any user makes any objectionable tweet on Twitter, not just the user, but also that Twitter will be liable for criminal action.
So that’s what the government is threatening the Twitter was now saying that this is the last chance to comply with the New IT rule 2021.
